The Basketball Jones Ep. 029

Ooooo… basketball! I remember this sport!
The Basketball Jones — Episode 029.
In this week’s episode, J.E. Skeets and Tas go through this year’s off-season’s winners and losers, get a handle on the Raptors’ overhaul, discuss Steve Nash’s dome, answer some mail, and much, much more…
Oh, all that, and Mike James compares his basketball career to the life of a prostitute.

That was great guys! When you think you’d get tired to hearing Mike James, he’ll always surprise you with mo’ crazyness.
Oh Skeets, no mention of Draft night festivities and/or progress report on those videos/and/or interviews?
(I’m asking a lot.. but it’s my right damnit!)
Jesus, Howie … “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?”
(Um, yeah, The Lost Draft Tapes are still coming. I promise. Just try and think of ‘em as a late summer treat …)
Hehehe, Woah woah woah..put the phone down Russell.. I knew it’d get backlash.. To backtrack: I was entertained!
Your P-Cast is probably the only one I listen to. Great choice with beats too (love the Biggie track)
See, I’m all about the love too :)
Great pcast dudes.
Take this with a salt of grain but i think your assessment of the Knickerbockers is wrong. I’m betting that they are a 40 win team next season with Starbury and the rest of the talent on that team being allowed to have free reign. Most people play their best ball in a running offense and i think they have the talent to improve by a lot. I still think they will have horrible chemistry and be stuck in mediocrity for the next few years under Isiah’s tutelage as he gets rewarded for his improvement of the team with a head coaching job for a couple years to come.
I also think the Raps will be pretty bad this year but you are right in that they are getting some good talent and good contracts to work with for the next couple seasons to find their groove.
Mike James is freaking crazy.
Lucas, first, thanks for listening. And, second…
What?! How on earth will the Knicks win 40 games?! That sounds absolutely ridiculous to me. If they wanted to improve, they should have stuck with the coach that always improves in his 2nd year as coach of every team he has led. Agreed, there will be better spirits around the New York locker room, but horrible chemistry will lead to a 17 game improvement? What your saying is Isiah will take them from 23 to 40 wins because very little had changed otherwise. Absolutely no way.
The Raptors will take time to gel but they will be extremely exciting to watch and make a big improvement on their 27 wins last year. I actually see them winning just under 40 games.
I’m willing to bet the Raps will have more wins than the Knickers.
Dude, the Knicks rule in NBA Live 06. I am basing my argument on the teams talent and their play in NBA Live. They got Curry the post power scorer, Channing the rookie shot blocker with loads of potential, Q-Rich the 3 pt assassin, Jamal Crawford who can ball, Starbury the best point guard in the universe… not to mention David Lee whose been crushing competition in the summer league, Franchise (see Starbury), and of course Renaldo Balkman!!!!!!!!!
I kick so much ass in that game with this team and I bet Larry Brown does too. Anyways what I am getting at is this team has a bunch of stubborn players who can flat out ball. With Isiah stroking their egos and letting them have free reign with limited structure I see them winning a lot more games. I blame Larry Brown for 75% of what happened last year.
This team should definitely be much better than a team of soft unproven rookie (to the nba) Euros. BTW, Colangelo just signed the most Euro sounding one yet.
Uros Slokar REPRAZENT! (Euro Stroker?!?)
Anyways, I like the Raps in the long term but I think the Knickers will win this next round of Live. And I am certain that Larry Brown can beat anybody on the planet in NBA Live with scores never going higher than 50 pts.
tas, while you were navel deep in chinese people the knicks fired isiah, traded marbury for lebron, and hired the fifty year-old version of red auerbach.
That and they were demoted to the NBDL.
Best wishes to JD for next week and thanks for the playlist feature.
Chinese people cannot ball.
Woah, Sean, on behalf of my people (baller people that happen to be Chinese), I must respectfully respond nay my fine sir.
How can I prove it? I can’t really.. but just felt like defending one’s nation’s honor.
Can we get the link to the Mike James interview? I need a good laugh

[…] Q: At the end of Episode 29, Tas and you said the TBJ podcast had some “big plans in the works”. Well … dot-dot-dot? Throw us a freakin’ bone here Skeets! Love the show. Peace. – And2, N. Cali […]
Mike is quite a character. His obvious duality (claims of devotion to his wife followed immediately by an analogy with prostitutes revealing obvious experience) reminds me of 2pac.
