Ep. 124: By the Dawn’s Early Light …

shh... gilbert is sleeping

We get super patriotic, yo.

The Basketball Jones ‘The Fix’ — Episode 124 (.mp3)

On today’s show, Tas and I talk Kobe, Kobe, Kobe and his 65, 50, 60. What’s spurred this recent scoring spree? Where does this put him in the MVP race now? Why do people hate him so much? And much, much, more …

We also butcher some national anthems, hand out our Whoa Boy fantasy line-of-the-night and wish the Mamba had had a couple more in him.

We all know the MVP is coming from the West, so it’s interesting to look at Western Conference Players of the Month this year:

    November - Ming
    December - Bryant
    January - Nash
    February - Nowitzki
    March - Bryant (surely)

If Kobe can keep turning it on through April, then I think he’ll have to get some serious consideration.

    So you’re telling me Yao’s got a chance …

Yes, and Al Jefferson recently got player of the week so he’s a chance.

No, I understand that these awards aren’t the best barometer for MVP… but I don’t think many players have got 3 player of the month awards (like Kobe could easily do) and not be considered for MVP.

Tas, I originally thought the same thing about Kobe’s choice of #24 as a jersey number but then I recently realized that his father, Joe Bryant, wore #23.

…and there IS something going on with Kobe’s round point totals.

    For the month of March he has 30, 31(anomaly), 40, 30, 25, 25, 65, 50, 60.

Kobe is a douchebag, plain and simple. Think of it from Kobe’s teammates’ perspective. No one ever wants to play on the team with the ballhog, or the guy who just shoots it wherever he is. Even if he makes half of those crazy shots, you’re still gonna hate him. He may be the most talented on the team, but like you guys said, its the way he carries himself. He acts like he’s above everyone else, even Jordan, with the whole number change thing. And he steals Jordan’s patented hold out the clenched fist in front of him whenever he makes a big play.

I do hold some resentment being a blazers fan and all the big shots he has hit against my team over the years, and I appreciate his skill and talent, but i still hate him. I never liked him before all the off-court issues. And the way he broke up the one-two punch with him and Shaq, he could have had as many rings as Jordan and Pippen have.

By the way, after that butchering of the national anthem, I shall never again eat ‘Freedom Bacon.’ lol

How hot do you have your room, Tas? I’m in the sticks (cows, corn everywhere), way south of you, and I’m still fly-less. And I plan on being fly-less until July, at the earliest. Do you cure meats in your apartment?
