Ep. 164: Disgusting. Atrocious. Foul. Off-side.

How many ways can you say it? Plenty.

The Basketball Jones ‘The Fix’ — Episode 164 (.mp3)

On today’s show, Skeets and I discuss the suspensions handed out to Robert Horry, Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw. Does a single NBA fan approve of this decision? Will this verdict turn some fans away from the game? Doesn’t anyone use common sense anymore? Also, a new wild and crazy seeding format for the playoffs, and much, much more…

This sucks. Playoffs should be a celebration of basketball’s awesomeness. What can fans do to let the NBA know that they suck? I never hear baseball fans griping about “the MLB.”

I’m the guy with the “pick your opponent idea.” It is true that the biggest weakness is that seeds 4-8 would have less to play for. On the other hand, here are a few things they could play for:
    1) Pride (just saying)
    2) The top picking teams probably would frequently stay with their default matchup (ie, 8 vs 1)
    3) If 1 picked 2 and 3 picked 4 then 5 would get to pick from 6-8. Not likely, but, possible.
    4) 7 & 8 would probably be feeling some heat from 9 & 10, so they are playing just to make it into the playoffs.
    5) If there are a bunch of upsets the remaining teams would pick based on their original seeding position…

I don’t know if you guys have read/heard about this, but the reason Stern said he didn’t want to use the re-seeding system is because of the television scheduling nightmare it would be to wait for all of the series to finish before starting the next round. TNT and ABC wouldn’t stand for that downtime under their current contract.
