1. Sorry this is up so late this morning. Blame the guy to my right. (Seriously. What a show! Anyone else in attendance last night?)

2. Charles Barkley calls the 80’s Celtics “the ugliest team in NBA history.” Meh. My vote goes to any team that had Popeye Jones on the roster. Man, he was something else. Literally. [Larry Brown Sports]

3. Recently seen/heard in a Seattle nightclub: Vlad Radmanovic, sporting an 80’s Eastern Bloc chic look, lying to a bachelorette party about his actual height. Sounds about right. [Seattle Weekly via Supersonicsoul]

4. Yes, this is my dad. Sigh. [With Leather]

5. It goes against my “guards shouldn’t wear big men jerseys” rule, but man, even I’d consider rocking a Blazers’ Sabonis. He was the shit. [Straight Cash Homey Dot Net]

Move away from the TV and breathe it all in.

The Basketball Jones Podcast — Episode 185 (.mp3)

On today’s show, Tas and I discuss: why no one (besides me, of course) is watching this damn FIBA tournament; which players we’d want to build a franchise around; random jersey sightings; the Bulls’ front court logjam; and much, much, more…

Oh, all that, and we’re gaining on those Catholics! Vote, people! VOTE!

Update: Did we just crash the Blogger’s Choice site? Amazing!
Update 2: The site’s back up. No excuses now…
Update 3: Sorry, Benedict. We just blew by the Catholics podcast. You’re next, Chicks!

1. Hot rumor alert! Apparently, a well-known retired NBA player is in the hunt to buy the Crazy Horse Too strip club in Las Vegas. Top candidates? Barkley? Oakley? Dickey? [Morning Buzz via Ballhype]

2. Europeans say Rudy Fernandez is better than Andrea Bargnani. Whatever. I say Filipinos are better than Europeans. Oh, snap! [Blazers Blog]

3. Did you know that Bill Walton and the ESPN crew are doing these FIBA games from a studio in Bristol, not Vegas? Weird. I guess Walton didn’t have enough time to learn the state of Nevada’s history. [Forum Blue & Gold]

4. Recently seen hockey billboard: “The only thing our refs shave is the ice.” [The Dallas Morning News]

5. “This morning, I woke up / Feelin’ brand new, I jumped up.” Kweli concert tonight! Yes, sir! [YouTube]

Podcast News: Paradise Studio

As mentioned yesterday, while begging you to go and vote The Basketball Jones for Best Podcast, the boys and I are gearing up to record a new show this Thursday morning — episode ‘one-eight-five,’ if my memory serves me chana masala correctly. (Sorry, I had Indian food last night. Aroma. Yum.)

Thing is, as of right now, Tas and I have little to no idea what we’re going to talk about. Sure, we might ramble on about this hot FIBA action, stir up some more Jermaine O’Neal trade talk, and/or sound off on Rafer ‘Slash To My Lou’ Alston . . . but honestly, none of that junk is that great.

So, we’d really appreciate your input, questions and feedback. Most of you guys here seem pretty S-M-R-T. Most. Of. You.

As always, you’ve got three ways to get at us. This page breaks down two of ‘em. Cheers.

WeTube: Amare Stoudemire ‘Making It Rain’

If you have no idea what’s going on here — Grandma — this is video of Suns superstar Amare Stoudemire “making it rain” by throwing money into a crowd at a nightclub. Ridiculous? Of course. But at least Amare manages to make it look somewhat classy.

And oh, yeah, he gets his Pac.

1. Why do I have to take Jason Kidd? I’d much rather play hooky, hit the park, and eat Doritos with Clifford Robinson all day. [Nets.com]

2. I just purchased a new MacBook Pro, and well, I’m actually considering buying these little Bluelounge Cool Feet to help its airflow. Someone please slap me. [Uncrate]

3. Some chick named LeToya hosted a ‘Steve Francis, Welcome Back to the Rockets’ party at the Hilton in Houston this past weekend. (Scroll down.) Good luck finding that Hallmark card. [Young, Black, and Fabulous]

4. Dirk, on being upset by the Warriors: “The only positive side was that it gave me a longer holiday than normal. I took two months off and just cut myself off from basketball, which did me a lot of good.” I’d keep an eye on this. [Taipei Times]

5. John Starks has one ugly-ass looking tennis serve. Ugh. [HoopsAddict.com]

Bloggers Choice Awards: Vote TBJ for Best Podcast

You know, I like to think we here at The Basketball Jones don’t ask for much with regards to our podcast. Tas and I watch the NBA; JD records us arguing about it; you guys subscribe, download and listen. Rinse, repeat, five times a week. It’s a neat, little cycle really. And oh yeah, it’s free.

So, for the love of God Shammgod, please, go and vote The Basketball Jones for Best Podcast at the Blogger’s Choice Awards website. Seriously. Do it. I need this, man. Badly. Elliott Smith is playing, and I’m starting to feel like a shave.

“But Skeeters,” you say, “I have to sign up before I can vote.”

Bah! I don’t want to hear it! We’ve given you, like, what — 180 episodes X roughly 20 minutes per show . . . beep-bop-beep — 12 years of our fuckin’ lives? Jeez, I think you can spare us three minutes and a goddamn click, you lazy bastard.

So, vote, vote, vote! Tell your family, tell your friends, tell your family friends with Internet access. Head to the Blogger’s Choice Awards site and vote for The Basketball Jones in the Best Podcast category.

Thanks in advance, guys. I really like you. You smell great.

Best Podcast — The Basketball Jones [Blogger’s Choice Awards]

By the way, a new podcast is coming Thursday morning. Well, if we get enough votes.

Bonus Incentive: If we somehow end up winning this thing — very, very unlikely — I promise to try and rap an entire Jones episode . . . drunk . . . and blindfolded. Now do what you gotta do, folks. Rock this motherflippin’ vote!

WeTube: ABA Legend Spencer Haywood In Israel

I won’t lie: I know very little about Spencer Haywood’s career. In fact, when Shoals first spun this video my way — like a dreidel, you see! — I thought it was Felton Spencer proclaiming that he’d created the power forward position, and “would average 75 points and 50 rebounds” in today’s game. I obviously need to do my homework.

1. Charlie Rose’s interview with Steve Nash. [Charlie Rose]

2. Kobe vs. Jordan. LeBron vs. Bird. Kidd vs. Magic. Could today’s USA squad actually be better than the original Dream Team? (No.) [RaptorsHQ.com]

3. Kenny Anderson on coming out of retirement: “It’s hard for me to understand these guys [trying to play past 40]. It’s a young man’s game. I had a nice run in the league, but there comes a time to step aside. It’s no fun sitting on the bench as insurance, waiting for someone else to fall out.” [Orlando Sentinel]

4. Hold on. Indiana still has a basketball team? [Indy Cornrows]

5. Did you know that Knicks’ guard Dan Dickau is co-founder of TheChipLab.com, a custom poker chip company? I didn’t. Apparently he made this LeBron V-themed poker set. [Dime]
