Ep. 187: Love Me, Praise Me, Trade Me
I am important, damn it!
The Basketball Jones Podcast — Episode 187 (.mp3)
On today’s show, Tas and I talk about Shawn Marion’s latest trade demands; Nowitzki’s questionable leadership skills; whether Oden’s injury is a blessing in disguise; and much, much, more…
Oh, all that, and we’re left to imagine what a TBJ-inspired GilIIZero sneaker would look like.

[…] Awesome NBA Podcast [TheBasketballJones] […]
Jor-El Pryz-Thrilla doesn’t have one nickname per se, Portland fans have a billion things they call him. Here’s a few:
The Vanilla Gorilla
Ghost Face Billa
Pryz-Zilla
Pryz-Thrilla
Pryzzly Bear
Dolla Dolla Zilla
And there are several more I am forgetting for sure. All nicknames are based off his name, end in “Illa”, and so on. “The Shotblocker” might fit, but is pretty boring when a guy has so many Zzz’s in his name AND is so white!
He’s supposed to be healthy this year, and his nuts have had a year to heal from Troy Murphy’s nutshot that ruptured Jor-El’s sack and made it swell and explode like planet Krypton. I’m not sure if people (people = Non-Portland fans) knew that happened last season…
Oden being out sucks more than anything, but as we can’t do nuthin’ about it now we gotta look for positives. Frye will get more burn, as will McRoberts (for better or worse, we can see if he can actually play). Also, now Travis Outlaw can play the 4 more, which was his best position last season. With Oden in, and Frye backing up Aldridge, Outlaw would get nearly all of his minutes at the 3, which would come at the expense of Webster getting minutes as well. It’s a domino effect.
So Oden out means: The Blazers get to see exactly what we/they have in the other young guys, and hopefully Oden comes back stronger than ever. Since the Blazers weren’t gonna do much this season besides develop more, if we gotta find something positive about Oden being out than it makes it easier for the Blazers to see what we got in the non-Roy/Aldridge/Oden youngsters.
Oden out or not, Aldridge is gonna explode this year and people will finally see how good Roy really is (yeah, he won the ROY, but he is even better than just “solid”). As a Portland fan I got a whole heaping spoonfull of hope I put on everything, but Oden’s surgery was the best possible type of microfracture. He should come back just fine, but man… it does suck we gotta wait a year. But the Blazers are more than Oden, for now.
But man… it still does suck. The offseason is too long.
Great podcast, looking forward to the show coming back regularly.
Best way to spin Oden’s injury: Greg Oden, Rookie of the Year 08/09
I like the new Robot-Voice Tas
By the way, here’s that otter t-shirt Melas keeps referring to …
Awesome, last week Tas sounded like Barry White. This week he’s Mr.Roboto.
Pretty please do a TBJ video-cast one day.
Fond memories of Seaworld Skeets?
I’m afraid of the ocean. I don’t trust it.
I just pulled Skeets’ otter out of my throat, FYI.
The Suns will go NOWHERE without Shawn Marion. Marion is killer in every stat and the best athlete on the Suns.
Guys, tag and vote on Marion. Let’s see what you guys think: http://www.spock.com/Shawn-Marion/pictures/vote/143247
