Ep. 280: A Love Affair, Starring Allen Iverson

The Basketball Jones — The Fix — Episode 280 (.mp3)

On today’s show, Skeets and I discuss Allen Iverson’s return to Philadelphia and the legacy he will leave, who will grab the 8th seed in the east, and if the MVP argument that how a team would do without a player is valid. We also hear an international war of words, and much, much more. Enjoy.

I love how you guys let everyone know you’re not homers every day. Way to go. :-)

Tas, you make it sound like people don’t appreciate Iverson’s skill. He’s revered by all non-Larry Bird apologists under 50 years old around the world!

Chris Paul certainly doesn’t deserve the MVP. His numbers are astounding, his team is overachieving, he can take over at will, but he’s not the best player today. Tas, you make me cringe with your Bryant comments. Mamba IS the MVP. He’s taken his game to another level and became an actual leader in LA. Sick closer, mental mastermind.

I think that AI’s legacy was improved greatly when he moved to Denver. It showed that he could play as part of a team, and I think that age/maturity level had a lot to do with the way with we perceive his intensity.

Do all Canadians buy each other hats?

    Chicken legs.

@ BMatthews: really? If the Nuggets fail to win a playoff series, I don’t think it helps his legacy–it solidifies his inability to lead, despite his talent.

And it also proves that Melo is a pampered bitch.

Kobe tanked/pouted the first quarter of the season. He will be injured for the last quarter. Its not the 1/2 or 3/4 season MVP. If it was, Shaq would have had about 10 of them.

Maybe Iverson is a top 10 player of his generation but all time top ten? Take a deep breath, you are hyperventilating. No way. I cant even put him in the top 5 all time PG’s.
Gutsy guy who shot an enormous amount to get his points and went to the line a ton but let’s not get crazy. Hard to coach and hard to play with, he was really a SG (and as he is nearing the end of his career, has accepted this role). As for scoring titles, SG George Gervin won 3-4 titles in a row I believe and had the most scoring titles of any guard in league history until MJ arrived and Gervin is an afterthought… Nice sideshow attraction but wouldnt want him to be the PG on champioship team.
The only thing missing from that mushy display was Brett Favre bawling.

J-Kidd doing what he does best against the C’s:
    11 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 pts (1/8 shooting)

asian parents will forever consider AI a thug; it’s probably the headband & his reckless abandon.

Lebron James is the rightful winner of the MVP award hands down. He was already robbed of it. How many more times does he have to be robbed. Other than kevin Garnett; he is the best all around athlete in the game hands down. Lebron 4 MVP.

  12. Alec Wilde at 12:56 pm on 03.23.2008

Henry how are you gonna say LeBron was robbed? Did you even consider Kobe has gotten robbed? Or are you just too close-minded?
