C-Webb finally retired. About effing time.
My lasting memory of him wont be his ego destroying a Kings team that was amongst the best in the league while he was out. No.
It will be a playoff game sometime around ‘02/’03 and Webber is at the FT line, getting ready to brick another one and my little niece passes by the TV and looks at the big closeup of Webber’s face with his lip quivering and his eyes watering up and she aske “Why does that man look like he is about to cry?”
I realized then what the little girl instinctively knew: you will never win with a guy whose game face makes you wanna yell: “C’mon momma’s boy, cry for me. C’mon,… show us some tears you little fa***t!!”
And fittingly, that’s how I will always remember him.
Actually, I loved Webber and he immortalizes what being true to the game is p.c. One of the best college basketball players in its history, who had one of the unluckiest, topsy-turvy careers in professional sports. A great guy, when he wasn’t rapping, a good inner-city kid that wanted to make it big and did. I don’t think he will be easily forgotten. The Kings would be in the state the Sonics are in right now 10 years ago if he didn’t sign with them. A lot of people will bullshit me on this, but it really comes down to did he do a good job or not, and he did, hard-nosed mentality and finesse down low, he and Bibby, in both their primes, made Kings games must-see.

I bet Kenny George can do it with just his thumb.
