    It stands to reason that Calderon’s passing skills would extend to Gatorade distribution. Any truth to the rumor that Garbo kicks out orange slices during halftime?

    I’ve got them in platinum and white gold, traditional gold…

    KG should be included in the MVP race because last year the C’s were almost unwatchable with “The Truth” going into hero-mode 10 minutes into the game. And the only way that Defense (whats that?) will ever get its due recognition will be when they come up with a stat that accurately gauges the ability to COVER YOUR MAN.
    CP3 gets my vote. 20 assists, 1 turnover last night. What PG would you rather have?

    I believe my Flight of the Conchords comment on yesterdays show led to your opening line today, Skeets.

    Standard Yellow Lemon Lime Gatorade is the best.

    @BMatthews: Spot-on. As a Knicks fan, I grew up despising the Celtics, and was pretty stoked at how awful they looked on both sides of the ball last year — but this year, they’re actually really fun to watch. The defensive rotations, the ball movement, Rondo improving by leaps and bounds as the year goes on … it’s just good-looking basketball.

    And by the way, if you had said before the season started, “Lebron’s gonna average 31, 8 and 8 this year,” do you think anyone would have picked him to finish fourth in MVP voting?

    Garbo hands out smokes.

    “On today’s show, Skeets and Tas discuss …”

    Sounds like someone’s letting all those television appearances go to their head …

    @Bilal: Yes, and thank you.

    @Devine, re: LBJ: No freakin’ way.

    If the MVP award is about stats/best indivudual ability, it should go to Lebron (with CP3 as a close 2nd). If it’s about being the best player on the best team, it should go to Garnett (again, with CP3 as a close second). Even if defense could be factored in statistically, the edge LeBron has over Kobe in every meaningful offensive category offsets any edge Kobe has on defense. Plus, if defense were factored in, Garnett would surge ahead of Kobe statistically. If there were a Most Exciting Player award, Kobe would deserve it, but he’s the third or fourth best player in the league this season.

    @jeffpotts77: I’ve not yet heard Kobe slip that low in any discussion — interesting points by you.

    And that’s the thing, isn’t it? I believe Skeets and Tas brought this up a few weeks back when the MVP talk really started heating up … the league will never define what it means to be the Most Valuable Player, because to do so would curb discussion, and nothing makes league execs happier than when people are talking about the league (well, unless they’re talking about players’ afterparty gunplay or pending sexual assault charges).

    If someone were to set out to prove that Kobe is a better player this season than LeBron, what would their angle be? Here are the categories in which a reasonable person might suggest Kobe has the edge this season: 3-point shooting, free-throw shooting, defense, and, finally, the won-loss column. Those who emphasize the won-loss column conveniently forget that when Kobe had a poor supporting cast, his team too was mired in mediocrity. The past few seasons the Lakers won 34, 45, and 42 games with Kobe as their leader. Now suddenly they’re a very good team and he gets all the credit? Who would you rather have, a healthy Bynum or Ilgauskas? A healthy Gasol or Gooden/B.Wallace? Odom or Hughes/Szczerbiak?

    The top 4 candidates are very close… hence this discussion… so it will go to Kobe as a “Lifetime Achievement Award”.

    That sort of shit just enters the voters heads… like last year when Nash probably deserved it, but the voters just couldn’t give him 3 in a row.
