The People’s Book It: Sly Dog – Day 4

The Basketball Jones is giving away a TBJ t-shirt and a Ball Claw to the person who can put together the longest streak from now till the end of the season. If you’d like to give it a shot, email us. SlyDog, the professional handicapper, sounds/is smart. For the lead:

DETROIT [-6.5] over Minnesota

First off, I really regret not taking the Bulls last night to beat down my Bucks like I originally intended. Another epic loss, “NBA…Where Your Team Makes You Wear A Bag On Your Head Happens”. Now back to business. Last time these teams got together Mr. Big Shot and Raweed got the night off and the Wolves couldn’t break through. I expect the Pistons to rest guys again for this one, however, their youngsters have been getting plenty of run lately and are really playing well. Tonight is fan appreciation night at the Palace, which will include prizes and giveaways with the usual ’shirt off the back night’ in which fans can win a player’s game worn jersey. But are you really winning if they call you down to take Walter Herrmann’s jersey home with you? The grand prize is supposed to be a house giveaway, but those things never work out and are usually a disaster, so they are also letting one lucky fan take over as mayor for Mr. Kilpatrick, who lied about who he let use his ball claw. The T-Wolves have won their last 2 road games and have been putting up a lot of points, however this Piston team knows how to lock it down, so they may be contained. This one is for all the marbles and to break the tie, what drama! It’s time to make sure the people’s pick stays above the point five 0 mark inching ever so closely to Melo’s BAC (which was probably somewhere around point nine 0). Ok Bad Boys, let’s run this thing to four!

[TBJ Record: 71-82-4 (46%) | People’s Record: 20-19-3 (52%) | SlyDog’s Streak: 3 | Longest Streak: 3 (Tie) | Mood: Bellicose | Food: Pizza Hut Lunch Buffet - oh yea!]

Reminder: The Jones will be back with an “Awards” podcast tomorrow.

The People’s Book It: Sly Dog – Day 3

The Basketball Jones is giving away a TBJ t-shirt and a Ball Claw to the person who can put together the longest streak from now till the end of the season. If you’d like to give it a shot, email us. SlyDog, the professional handicapper, sounds/is smart. For the tie, and for some possible balls in a claw:

WASHINGTON [-4] over Indiana

Time to go back to the well for this one. Tonight Indiana is on life support for the playoffs and needs a lot of help. The have been scoring a ton lately and they are 6-2 in their last 8, but most of those have been against the East’s worst teams. Tonight is the Wiz’ final home game and kids get in free! What better way to appreciate the young fans in the District than to let them all in for nothing on a school night. Agent 0 is getting stronger every game, and now that they are locked in to play the Cavs in the playoffs, look for the Wiz to run and gun tonight and play free. That means Jermaine will have to run up and down the court and we all know he’s not up for it. Look for Butler to come back tonight and bring tons of energy. The Pacers will need yet another 30+ game from Grainger to stay in it, but that’s not likely. The Wiz just can’t let me down here. As a Bucks fan, I really need that Jones shirt this summer, it will go perfect with the paper bag I’ve been wearing on my head. And my wife’s had my balls in a vice for weeks, I’m sure she wouldn’t mind putting them in a claw instead.

TBJ On GearCrave

Hello, party people. Unfortunately, we won’t have a show until Wednesday’s Award extravaganza because of JD’s impending little one, but in the meantime, you can take a read of an interview Skeets and I did over at GearCrave.com. GearCrave is “The Ultimate Buyer’s Guide for Men who love stuff”. Set aside some serious time if you visit the site. You’ll salivate, learn, but mostly, cry.

The Basketball Jones is giving away a TBJ t-shirt and a Ball Claw to the person who can put together the longest streak from now till the end of the season. If you’d like to give it a shot, email us. SlyDog, the professional handicapper, sounds smart. Look out, streak!

Orlando [-3] over CHICAGO

The Magic have alternated wins and losses in their last 5 games, losing the previous game to the T-Wolves in OT, so their due for a win here. After the game, coach Ron Jeremy, who was wearing his usual mock turtle neck (which his snarky brother calls “a mockery to mock turtle necks”), called out his team. He claimed they weren’t really interested in winning, now that they’ve locked up the 3 seed. You would expect a normal playoff type team to respond, but we’re talking about the Magic here. Then there are the Bulls, a team of misfits and midget 2 guards that has had its share of young players who haven’t responded after an entire season of messages from their coaches and GM. Wagering on these two teams at this point is as dicey as taking the hot chick from the golf or softball team to prom - you never know, she could go either way. Look for a high scoring game here with the Magic pulling away late.

The People’s Book It: SlyDog – Day 1

The Basketball Jones is giving away a TBJ t-shirt and a Ball Claw to the person who can put together the longest streak from now till the end of the season. If you’d like to give it a shot, email us. Up next: SlyDog, a professional handicapper. (Seriously.) Let’s see how the pros do. Take it away, sir:

WASHINGTON [-2] over Philadelphia

These two teams really struggled last night and I’m starting to think they are fine with where they are seeded as of now. I think the Wiz would love to tangle with King James in the playoffs (especially now they are not playing well) and to quote Agent 0: “We want Cleveland for our own reasons, we don’t think they can beat us in the playoffs three years straight. It’s hard to beat a team three years straight. We want to try our luck.” The Sixers have played the Pistons real tough each time this year. Iguodala is banged up and Agent 0 should break out after being held down by a great defensive team last night. I like the Wiz here at home to handle a scrappy Sixer team.

[TBJ Record: 68-82-4 (45%) | People’s Record: 17-19-3 (47%) | SlyDog’s Streak: 0 | Longest Streak: 3 (Tie) | Mood: Unflappable | Food: Johnsonville Cheddar Brats]

The People’s Book It: BMatt – Day 1

The Basketball Jones is giving away a TBJ t-shirt and a Ball Claw to the person who can put together the longest streak from now till the end of the season. If you’d like to give it a shot, email us. UNDER .500 go the people.

So, for weeks I’ve been telling myself that if I ever got the chance to do a people’s book-it I’d pick a game completely randomly because these garbage games at the end of the year are especially impossible to pick, but I figure I can’t pussy out now so I actually thought about this pick:

Washington [+5] over DETROIT (home team in CAPS)

The Wiz have been playing like they actually enjoy basketball lately, and they could catch Cleveland for the fourth seed and lock up home court, while Detroit CONSTANTLY takes games off. Anyway, they have nothing to play for tonight. ‘Twan has played pretty damn well recently, dropping 27 against the C’s. Also, I like the Wizards and the way they play and I hate the Pistons because they take one out of four games off and Isiah has ruined my Knicks. BOOK IT!

[TBJ Record: 68-81-4 (46%) | People’s Record: 17-18-3 (48%) | BMatt’s Streak: 0 | Longest Streak: 3 (Tie) | Mood: Nervous | Food: $6 Steak Tips]

Jason Kapono Pulls A Chuck Woolery

I pulled a Bill Simmons in posting this. I felt like getting Raptor fans all riled up that Jason Kapono can get a shot off (a made one!) in 0.22 seconds, while T.J. Ford can’t get a tip in .5. I love at the end how Jordan Farmar tries to take some credit for the pass, but Kapono wants all the thunder. This has all he’s got Jordan, let him have it. But, honestly, bringing hundredths of a second to the game clock only seems like a logical evolution.

The People’s Book It: Sheahanlian (like Yi Jianlian) – Day 1

The Basketball Jones is giving away a TBJ t-shirt and a Ball Claw to the person who can put together the longest streak from now till the end of the season. If you’d like to give it a shot, email us. Back to .500 go the people.

LA CLIPPERS [+15.5] over LA Lakers (home team in CAPS)

The Lakers have been winning lately but not blowing people out. Brand’s return (and push for a new contract) should help the Clippers keep this one close. Plus, everyone knows that Tim Thomas is due for one 40 point game per year, and with the way the Lakers have been playing D lately, it’s probably going to be tonight.

[TBJ Record: 68-80-4 (46%) | People’s Record: 17-17-3 (50%) | Sheahanlian’s Streak: 0 | Longest Streak: 3 (Tie) | Mood: Gassy | Food: Soylent Green]
