Ep. 303: I’ll Show You A Punch

The Basketball Jones — The Fix — Episode 303 (.mp3)

On today’s show, Tas and I discuss Darius Songalia “punching” LeBron (Ha!), if the Wizards are better off without Gil, the Cavs shittin’ the bed, how great Avery Johnson must feel this morning, and much, much more. Enjoy.

This show got off on the right foot with a little Baba O’Reilly and Slice’s chest hair.

Reggie Miller would call that a punch. He was the original flopper….maybe I just hate him for ruining my childhood by killing the Knicks.

It doesn’t matter what you call Songaila’s hit to James….it was still a major cheap shot.

Tas, it took Butler a few games to get back to his normal, dominant self? Butler’s been playing well since he returned March 13.

I don’t know what series you’re watching Ryne. An average of 15 pts before last night isn’t dominating.

    CARRRRRRRROOOOOOOOONNNNNNNIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMOOOOOOOO!!

FYI BMatt: I was a Knicks fan in late 90s as well, and they killed Regiie from 96-99, so whaddahell are you smoking? I was watching on my local network and it appeared Lebron had songalias arm locked up, and Caron’s been in form all damn year. Thats why he was an all-star.

They killed Reggie’s Pacer teams, but for some reason that man could shoot the lights out from the corner in the Garden.

Lebron could flatten Songaila without blinking. that wasn’t a punch, it was a flail in the proud tradition of NBA slap fights.

the only groups that scrap worse than NBA players are soccer players and Taiwanese parliamentarians.

    kimboooooooooooooooooooooo!

The “punch” issue is pretty similar to how Boston announcers was calling Pachulia’s getting in Garnett’s face a “headbutt.”

PS - You guys need to bring back the clip of Ms Lesley stating “Seriously, what the f*** is a podcast?”

Re: Caron being a leader, it was nice to see him say in an interview during the game yesterday–”Whatever you hear about this supposed trash talking–nothing is official unless you hear it from Antawn or me. We’re the leaders of this team.” Nice to see him reflect on court leadership with off court leadership too.

Enough with the Reggie Miller, except for playing a good series against the Knicks and the fawning media, he did shit all. Had he played that series against he bucks he would have been forgotten. Fuck, people call him a ‘winner’ because of that one series.

Of course, the MMA equivalent of Miller is Kimbo,… lots of hype. Lots, lots, lots. So much that its starting to blur reality. Of course, I wont say Kimbo is an MMA fighter until he fights a tomato can with a pulse.

It pisses me off that Caron Butler is a Wiz, because apart from him that team is so easy to hate. Still, better the Wiz than still with the Lakers (Caron for Kwame, what were they thinking?!?).

Correction Matt–Caron for Gasol–what were the Grizzlies thinking!
