Ep. 314: This Is What You All Wanted

The Basketball Jones — The Fix — Episode 314 (.mp3)
On today’s show, Skeets and I discuss Rip Hamilton’s nasty ‘bow to Kevin Garnett’s face, Detroit shying away from the paint and other thoughts from the Celtics’ Game 1 win. We also preview the Spurs-Lakers Conference Finals match-up, ponder the Bulls decision of Beasley or Rose, and much, much more. Enjoy.

Tas, I understand the financial ramifications, but the Bulls would be really dumb to pass on Derrick Rose. They can put up the extra $1,364,700 over three years for Rose, who will make *far* more money for the Bulls than Beasley ever will.
Rasheed’s smile will haunt my dreams. It is, perhaps, the greatest testament to Kendrick Perkins’ inexperience that he remains nonplussed in the face of a 7-foot, jumpshooting version of the Green Goblin.
Only caught very limited snippets of last night’s game (thanks, work), but reading the recaps and the reports on Chauncey’s iffines makes me wonder if the “Detroit in 6″ bandwagon might start to get a little lighter. I eagerly await the Pistons’ Game 2 responsorial salvo.
And it will be very interesting to hear the New York crowd’s reaction to the following: “With the sixth pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, the New York Knicks select Danilo Gallinari, Armani Jeans Milano, Italy.”
Headline correction: The Wolves did not “fall” anywhere.
And oh, fuck frogs — I’m a turtles guy.
2nd graf of my previous comment should read “iffiness” — as in, if Chauncey’s hamstring continues to show “iffiness,” we’ll be seeing a lot more of Lindsey Hunter in the Eastern Conference Finals, which can’t be that good a thing for Detroit.
And oh, fuck frogs — I’m a turtles guy.
When the Battletoads come, Skeets, you will be first against the wall with your opinion, which is of no consequence. At all.
“Bulls deep” comment cracked me up…
Random thought: Is it just me or do sideline reporters always try to lead KG into making cocky comments? Tafoya’s first question last night was something along the lines of “How did you manage to dominate Rasheed Wallace so immensely in your 1-on-1s?” Frodo Sager tried to do the same thing last week…
Someday Rasheed will replace Barkley on Inside and it will be hilarious
Tas — So, the Pistons have to slow the game down to win? What? Last night both teams had 80 possessions each. During the season, the Pistons averaged 87 possessions per game and the Celtics averaged 90. The Pistons slowed the game down A LOT last night and they still lost by 9 points.
By the way, I love how there was no mention in the podcast of how badly you predicted what would happen last night. Dude, keep it real.
Wow Skeets welcome to the stone ages. That is so freakin old.
It’s like this

Trieu, we call each other out ALL THE TIME (I like your CAPS style). Yes, we predicted the Pistons to come out better, but, um, everyone screws up predictions. Like, everyone.
I was commenting on their style of play more than their number of possessions. They just didn’t seem in control and as calculated in their offence as they normally are. A sub-par Chauncey must have had a lot to do with the way I was seeing the game. 13 turnovers for such few possessions isn’t a good number, especially for this team. Against the Magic, they averaged 6.5 TO’s in their wins. That’s the Detroit basketball I wanted to see.
regarding the spurs plane - they’re not the only team that use that airline. i think in one of the articles it mentioned that 14 teams used champion air for the their flights, and i think maybe the lakers were one of the other 13.
Alec — Don’t be fooled, that Zombie clip is brand new. I’ve just happened to watch it 4,289,693 times.
Trieu — I didn’t BOOK shit. Call me out if the C’s manage to take the series. Dude.
Andrew — 14. See: Rovell.
I loved KG’s reaction to the Rip elbow… it was like Bruce Willis in The Last Boy Scout… ‘touch me again and I’ll kill you’.
Many a player (including LeBron) would have hit the deck, and you’re right, Rip would be sitting out the next game.
Skeets let me touch that TJ Ford bobble head time machine I have some stuff I need to fix from the past, you don’t wanna know…
Still that video gets me every time. I love the look on his face at the start, priceless, kinda like that TJ Ford bobble head time machine.
Say “TJ Ford bobble head time machine” out loud, sounds like a 2 am infommercial.
What was the song you played coming out of the first break? Something about “six feet down” and a worm underground?
Skeets — My earlier comment was for Tas.
(Though I reserve the right to be indignant towards you as well, should the C’s take the series.)
Hey Trieu … if you’re gonna have a big mouth and call people out, you should really check your facts. I, as well as Skeets, said game 1 could be a game the Pistons steal. So, they didn’t. Geesh, man. Take it easy. (And see Mike Payne’s comment under episode 315 for how to formulate a response).
