Ep. 329: Embrace The Trophy, Celtics

The Basketball Jones — NBA Finals, Game 6 — Episode 329 (.mp3)

On today’s final show of the 2007-08 season, Tas and I attempt to breakdown Game 6 of the Lakers-Celtics NBA Finals. We discuss, among other things, when strange-girl-momentum swung over to the Celtics, Garnett’s clutch performance, that funny lil’ word called “repeat,” and sweet, sweet Gatorade baths.

Enjoy, friends, and many thanks for a great season.

JD, Tas and I have really appreciated your support. Embrace stuff. Bye.

    *sniffs away tears*

Did anybody catch Brian Scalabrine’s post-game press conference. Classic.

  2. Ryne Nelson at 11:41 am on 06.18.2008

Thanks Skeets, Tas, JD for the great year!

    Congrats Tsar!

  3. kevbo at 11:42 am on 06.18.2008

great show. great year. for about 3 seconds, i thought the song they played when the show was signing off was skeets singing. woulda been cool if it was…

  4. Bilal at 11:52 am on 06.18.2008

How fitting that Rondo got Whoa-Boy on the Final TBJ podcast of the season. Hate the way that Skeets pronounces his name Ragin’.

Speaking of the blowout, I’m kinda sad that Sam Cassell didn’t step on the floor. Serious question: Didn’t you guys love him when he made the Bucks an Eastern Conference powerhouse with Ray Allen and took them to the Eastern Conference Finals?

  5. Lenny at 11:56 am on 06.18.2008

Are you guys gonna do a draft podcast??

  6. NDEddieMac at 11:56 am on 06.18.2008

It can’t be said enough how much you guys add to the NBA season. Thanks for all the hard work and awesome podcasting and here’s to a hell of a season. Enjoy the break guys, look forward to the comeback, hopefully around draft time

  7. Ramiro at 11:58 am on 06.18.2008

Skeets, Tas, JD thank you all for an incredible year, you guys really helped me get through some tough times. hope to hear you guys again soon.

  8. BMatthews at 12:14 pm on 06.18.2008

I haven’t even started listening yet and I’m already sad that TBJ will be out of my life for so long.

  9. watzalt at 12:23 pm on 06.18.2008

I thought Garnett was going to accidentally break someones neck durning the celebration like Lenny from Of Mice And Men. Tell me about the rabbits Paul.

  10. Aramir at 12:34 pm on 06.18.2008

Thanks you so much for all the fun i had this season with your show. Looking forward to hearing you again. Take care

  11. BMatthews at 12:48 pm on 06.18.2008

Do i smell eBay for that Garbage-josa jersey? Maybe a TBJ autographed special?

Or is Tas gonna hold on to that future Straight Cash Homey allstar?

  12. RBeezy at 1:17 pm on 06.18.2008

what a blowout. celtics were dominant, showing their defensive prowess. to quote KG: “motherfucker what? what motherfucker what?”

    does Garnett have Tourette’s? seriously.

  13. christoff at 1:27 pm on 06.18.2008

Thank you Jones Boys. You guys made work bearable for exactly 20 minutes a day and I enjoy basketball even more as a result of your show. Enjoy the break. Can’t wait for next year.

So which of you three is which Celtics Big 3 member? From L to R on the pic above… Skeets, JD, Tas ???

  14. Gourmet Spud at 1:54 pm on 06.18.2008

Congrats on a great year, gentlemen. Enjoy a much-deserved off-season.

  15. MattO at 2:02 pm on 06.18.2008

I was expecting Tas to do an impression of Garnett screaming “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!” I don’t know why, but I was.

You guys had a great season. I will now have nothing to do while drinking my afternoon tea.

  16. Ron Hitley at 2:10 pm on 06.18.2008

Bunch of legends, you men be.

JD, Tas, Skeets, thanks for all the time and effort you put into the podcast. The Jones rocks.

  17. Bilal at 2:12 pm on 06.18.2008

MattO: So did I. I envisioned Tas doing that too.

Best season of podcasting. First full season for me as a listener.

Since you guys were doing top 3 moments of the NBA season on the BDL Live Blog, I’ll share My 3 favorite episodes of this season of TBJ Podcasts
    1. Totally Krossed Out (the one where you guys did things backwards and called me out on my criticism of you guys)
    2. The episode where Skeets “showed some love” to the Utah Jazz. ‘Jerry Sloan, he’s a teddy, a teddy.’
    3. The Bullet Fedora (JD as Baron Davis)

  18. Alan at 2:25 pm on 06.18.2008

did the Lakers even run the triangle offense in that game? Kobe was on the wing jacking threes all game.

Thanks for all the fun you guys put into the NBA season. See you on draft day where some GM is going to get Pritch-slapped!

    Go Blazers

  19. Bilal at 4:16 pm on 06.18.2008

Also a great moment that you guys did not go over:

Stern trying to ice the boos of Boston’s crowd during the trophy presentations with a look of stupor and amusement on his face.

Oh my god, mama look at that man. What a devil. Anybody else realize this?

  20. P at 4:32 pm on 06.18.2008

Hey Skeets , are you still going to blog on BDL during your vacation??

  21. Brooks at 5:37 pm on 06.18.2008

    Thoughts in no particular order:

    1. How about Jeff Gundy’s man-crush on John Havlicek? During one of those crowd-panning sequences he caught a glimpse of Hondo and said something like “Can you BE any more regal than John Havlicek, I mean seriously?” Then he made an “Mm” noise that had an undertone of ‘I-would-hit-that’.

    2. James Posey and PJ Brown are the kind of agitators that would be hell to play against, and both are able to take this pesky, defensive role up a few notches in the playoffs. In a related story, I would take either one of them on my team in a heartbeat.

    3. Did Michelle Tafoya set a single-series record for most times being hit on while trying to deliver an interview? I say yes.

    4. WE’S ON TOP OF THE WORLD. MOOOOOOM. WE’S ON TOP OF THE WORLD… (string a 87 f-bomb’s connected)… MOOOOOOM.

Thanks for all the great shows this year, guys.

    Brooks

  22. MattO at 6:01 pm on 06.18.2008

@ Brooks: I noticed the same thing about Van Gundy. I’m now going to start calling man-crushes ‘Havlichubs’.

  23. BKR at 6:13 pm on 06.18.2008

Tas, Skeets, JD: Fantastic work this year, thanks for all the efforts you’ve put in!

  24. michelle at 7:16 pm on 06.18.2008

I’m going to miss you guys. You’re the best podcast on my list. Enjoy the summer!

  25. i hate andrew bogut even though i'm australian and have the same first name at 7:27 pm on 06.18.2008

seriously - thankyou tas, skeets and JD for making my early starts bearable. you guys deserve a break for the sterling effort you’ve put in this season.

  26. blitzko at 11:08 pm on 06.18.2008

Just a note about the caller who basically said that for Kobe to lose this game negates everything he has done before (maybe his whole life too): man, you need some serious psychiatric help.

  27. murphs at 3:27 am on 06.19.2008

awww im going to miss you blokes:( have a great holiday, the internets wont be the same for a few months. Hope to hear some pods for the olympics as the sepos get beaten again! have a great one guys!
    All the best From australia!

  28. Chris at 8:44 am on 06.19.2008

Listened to this ep as I was completing a reverse Walter Hermann (flying Detroit to Charlotte). Great season, my first with the podcast.

Hopefully we see you back post-draft, or at least the Olympics.

Re: The Finals, what an anticlimactic finish. And yeah, KG in the postgame was scary. I really did think he was trying to do an adidas ad.

  29. Keenan at 11:08 am on 06.19.2008

Did anyone else catch (I think) Marc Jackson comment on how Scalabrine and Pollard went and put their jerseys on because of their significant contributions to the team?

Great year, Jones. Until next time, playoffs.

  30. bob shannon at 11:10 am on 06.19.2008

  33. Izzy at 8:57 pm on 06.21.2008

the celtics straight up outplayed the lakers this series. it will be an active offseason for a lot of NBA teams to keep up with the arms race in the league right now. i wrote about some of these thoughts here: dishingdimes.blogspot.com

love the site guys! keep it up!

  34. Anthony J at 1:23 pm on 06.24.2008

Love you guys during the season. You guys were perfect to listen to while eating lunch. Now, lunch-time just isn’t the same.

Can’t wait until 2008-2009 (or a special draft podcast)

  35. Bryan at 8:32 pm on 06.25.2008

  38. AK Dave at 1:37 am on 06.28.2008

    Guys-

You are the coolest thing to come out of Canada since my stepdad and his mullet. No, really, I mean that. Seriously- I’m not joking.

Your podcast got me through hundreds of commutes to work when I lived in Chicago- thanks guys. Keep it up!

  39. Bilal at 11:23 pm on 06.30.2008

Anybody miss Amber Links of Grain, or are they happy getting that mediocre shit from KD?

  40. Moonshine Mike at 12:32 am on 07.02.2008

I miss Tas’s dulcet tones as they rock me to sleep at night.

and no, i’m not gay. and i’m not drunk. well, maybe not that much. maybe so. I ain’t sayin’

  41. El Seano at 9:17 am on 08.04.2008

I know I’m very late with the praise here but I’d like to thank you guys for a great year, I worked a shitty ass job for like 7 months or so and you guys certainly helped with it’s 7am starts. Enjoy your break, looking forward to the return.

  42. ethanator1088 at 2:43 am on 09.13.2008

This is one of my first podcasts. I am very late to La Revolucion. I will be back next season.

I was with the Celtics from game one of the season. I totally bought into all of that African Tribe Sayings that KG kept saying to explain the teams cohesiveness. I think a repeat is totally possible, but I am hoping LeBron gets a little bit more than Mo Williams.
