The Blazers Be Running With Jerryd Bayless
I was surfing the web, trying to find out a little more about Jerryd Bayless. I wanted to know why the kid slipped so low, getting snatched by the Pacers at 11 and immediately getting shipped to the Blazers. I know this is just a short YouTube clip, but you can tell, from scalp to sneakers, he’s a Kevin Pritchard kinda guy. Bayless is well spoken, seems grounded, and makes me feel like he sweats character.
It sort of makes me sick. Portland continues to add both incredible people and incredible athletes. I can’t help but feel Pritchard pulled the wool over the eyes of other GMs. They did send a character guy in Jarret Jack to Indiana, but character means nothing if you can’t play. And, not that Jack is a stiff, but Bayless seems to offer more. He seems to totally compliment Brandon Roy in that back court, and vice versa.
I’m swayed as to how good this Bayless deal is because of this ridiculous roster. We’re all at the feet of Pritchard as he compiles this masterpiece. Are we all giving him too much cred? Don’t think so. This offseason has been great for the club formerly known as the Jail Blazers. (see: the signing of the remarkably humble Rudy Fernandez).
Talent + Character = Frightening

Its great to see you guys are back in action. I personally missed you guys during the draft, if only because the two (three, hi JD!) of you would have actually said something different from the rest of the sports media.
So what are the details? Are we one for more ‘casts for the rest of the off-season? Are you guys happy and healthy? When you’re ready, I have a funny story about friends of mine from high school, Queens Quay, hookers, crack and stolen suitcases.
We miss you guys. Like the florists miss champagne.
that confusing “one” was supposed to read “on”
Hope you’re healing well and feeling better, Mr. Melas.
I think you’re spot on in your analysis of the way Bayless fits into the Portland mix (one small note: it’s Jerryd, which is going to just kill beat writers, editors and bloggers for a while). But it’s going to be really interesting watching them try to figure out how to win and stake a claim in the West … none of their significant pieces are over 25, and only two rotation contributors (Joel Przybilla and Steve Blake) are, and it’s not like either one of them has tons of winning/big game/playoff experience.
That said, what do we think their ceiling is next year: this year’s Hornets (much better than expected regular season, second round exit)?
Thanks for the Blazers love Tas, much appreciated.
spot on analysis Tas. This season is going to be amazing for my blazer brethren. Besides the big 3, the Blazers have probably one of the best benches out there. Pryzbilla, Channing Frye, Travis Outlaw, Rudy Fernandez and Bayless. That is a talented bucnh of NBA players that all play the right way
