WeTube: ABA Legend Spencer Haywood In Israel

I won’t lie: I know very little about Spencer Haywood’s career. In fact, when Shoals first spun this video my way — like a dreidel, you see! — I thought it was Felton Spencer proclaiming that he’d created the power forward position, and “would average 75 points and 50 rebounds” in today’s game. I obviously need to do my homework.

Can Xi Shun Play The Point?

Thanks to Steinberg’s keen eye, and via the Washington City Paper, comes quite possibly the greatest idea since sliced bread and/or bread products in general. Behold:

“The [ABA’s Maryland] Nighthawks brain trust is currently drafting plans to put local tallboys Gheorge Muresan and Manute Bol and 7-foot-9 Chinese player Sun Ming Ming in uniform to form the tallest team in basketball history.”

Silence.

(Slightly related: Former ABA/NBA badass Artis Gilmore is set to return to the ABA hardwood this Sunday — at the age of 58! — to intimidate the shit out of anyone within shouting distance. No word yet on whether he’ll be wearing the short-shorts.)
