Saturday’s blowout was an aberration.This game will be close and Boston may end up winning outright. Detroit is harder to beat on the road than at home — as crazy as that sounds — and that’s what concerns me about them being 6-point favorites.

SAN ANTONIO [-5.5] over LA Lakers (home team in CAPS)
The Spurs have not looked very good in Game 1 or 2 on the road. I’ve heard this bedtime story before (see: New Orleans series). I think Timmy goes for at least 25 and Ginobili finally gives us all the engines. Kobe will probably show up but I think this is the game where the rest of the Lakers forget to make the trip to the arena (Odom, especially) and the Spurs pull away big time in the second half… and KEEP THE LEAD.

Boston has really been disappointing all playoffs, and Detroit is gonna murder them in the Palace. Detroit will be even more physical at home, and the Prince will play inspiring defense at home.

LOS ANGELES [-6] over San Antonio (home team in CAPS)
The Spurs are an experienced and talented team. However, I think people do not realize just how good the Lakers can be. Not to mention Phil Jackson is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) coaches of the modern era. The Mamba will have his troops ready. My main man “The Machine” Sasha will continue pestering his opponents on defense. The Lakers are normally a soft offensive minded team, but when they play the type of defense that is down right annoying to opponents, they are almost unbeatable.

Of course DET will win. They have won on the road before and they will do it again. Their defense won’t collapse at the end like in game 1. DET lacks the kill shot at times, but they seem to know when to bring out the axe. Boston goes down because they do not seem ready to compete with the top teams in the playoffs. They play to the level of their opponents, thus giving teams a chance to win.

The Spurs have to be a little worn-out from sleeping on their plane Monday night - on top of a tough series with four games on the road. Besides, you know Phil Jackson has been preparing for almost a week for this game. While you can’t pick against the Spurs in a game 7, this is only game 1. The Lakers will win easily. Book it.

Boston’s gotta be tired after two rough 7-game series, and now they must play with only a day off between. If Rasheed can play an inside game, he’ll intimidate KG. Jason Maxiell could be the difference maker. Ray Allen is AWOL, as is Cassell, and now that the defense and the pressure get amped up a notch, I don’t expect them to turn things around. Tayshaun can focus on defense with Pierce, as opposed to LBJ who had to shoulder the offensive burden. At the start of the fourth quarter Detroit will be in position to put Boston away, but with no killer instinct, they’ll allow them to get back in it and maybe even win, but not beat the spread.

Spurs cover the spread and win, three reasons:
1) Ginobili’s ankle is better healed than West’s back.
2) Expect the big three to play 40+ minutes, something only reserved for game 7s.
3) We don’t know what the Hornets can do in a close game. I expect the Spurs to hold a slight margin at the half, again, and then a battle for the last 24 minutes of the series. Experience will triumph.

Going with Cleveland here, only hesitation is Boobie is out. Celtics have been good at home, but I expect a low-point grinder. Big load on LBJ and KG’s shoulders for this game, what it boils down to, one is a winner and the other a poser - I expect Boston to falter, at least with the spread.
