Bruce Bowen Shows His Hand; Which, Um… Is His Foot
I just stumbled upon this oddly entertaining video of Kenny Smith playing poker with Tony Parker, Bruce Bowen, Tim Duncan, Robert Horry, and David Robinson in Parker’s million-dollar home.
(It’s one in a series of online videos called “AT&T Home Turf” which sees Kenny Smith visit NBA player’s homes to talk about their AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet, their AT&T Wi-Fi, and oh, look — their AT&T Cingular phone!)
Anyway, I thought this little exchange between Smith, Bowen and the guys was quite… um… timely:
Kenny Smith: Bruce, now, has the defenses changed? Everyone is talking about this whole new defensives are different and more intricate. For somebody who is known as one of the best premiere defenders, has it changed for you?
Bruce Bowen: No matter what, man, I think it’s just about going old school. If you can show your hands, nine times out of ten it’s hard for an official to call a foul. So that’s my thing. I make sure I just try to show my hands each and every time–
David Robinson: You kick him.
Bowen: He fell! He fell!
Tim Duncan: (mocking Bowen) Hey, I had my hands up here.
Smith, Bowen, Parker, Horry, Duncan, Robinson: Hahahahaha…
Oh, Bowen — you cheap son-of-a-bitch, that may or may not be able to stop time …

(Bonus: If you can stomach the blatant AT&T whoring, there are a lot of funny moments in these videos. Off the top of my head: Duncan’s favorite show is the “A-Team”; Jermaine O’Neal benches 250-270lbs and watches “Martin” every single night; Chauncey Billups loves “Flava Of Love”; and Elton Brand likes to call Coach K by the pool.)

From the latest ESPN The Magazine, pg. 42:
What do the Spurs do on their team plane? Bet on video games like NBA Live, that’s what. “”We usually bet $300 to $400 a game, make things exciting,” explains Tony Parker. “The most I ever lost was $500. It was a long ride.”
Man, I tell you; if my kid doesn’t make this NBA thing — insert: threatening hand gestures implying I will beat my child — Oh boy…
